Content looking a bit… *ehem*, dull? Well, fear not. These simple tweaks will give your content the refresh it needs to dazzle your fans. Check ‘em out, below!

But First: Are You Making These Common Content Mistakes?
Before I get into some things you can do to create great content, I wanted to breeze through what you shouldn’t do (or at least try to avoid ?) because I think it’s important to understand why you’re your content might not be working for you, first.
For example, I often hear from new clients: “my content just falls on deaf ears” or, “social media and email doesn’t work for my business.” And usually, it’s pretty easy for me to respond because more often than not, most of these businesses are making the following mistakes:
Common Content Mistakes
- No content strategy
- Inconsistent
- Overselling
- Poor image quality
- Boring copy
- Not aligned with their audience
These are big content “no-nos” if you ask me, and probably won’t get you that far. The good news? It’s quite easy to fix with a little time and dedication, but something you might want to take note of before you hit publish on your next IG post!

Now that we’ve gone over some pretty common content mistakes, I’m going to reveal some additional things you can do to really “wow” your audience. Keep scrolling to learn more!
How to Create Great Content for Your Audience
1) Know Your Audience
Bottom line: great content starts with understanding your audience. You need to have a good handle on who they are, their likes and dislikes, key demographics, their struggles, and more. It seems so obvious, yet I think many are so focused on selling, that they can easily miss the mark here.
Align your content with their needs
My first recommendation with this, is to take a step back and ask yourself if that post is really speaking to your target audience. Remember: you’re creating FOR your audience and should be aligning your content with their interests and needs. So, if you’re not getting the results you want, perhaps it’s time to find clarity on who it is that you’re serving. Once you nail that down, creating content is SO much easier!
Create a Customer Avatar
PRO TIP: Try creating yourself a customer avatar like my example below as a starting point. Then you can have a specific person in mind the next time you create!

2) Educate Your Audience
Now that you’ve determined your target audience, you’re ready to serve them some valuable content! As I mentioned above, you’ll want to identify your audience’s challenges or pain points so you can address those needs in your content. This means providing helpful tips or insight that help them solve a problem. Some examples of how to weave this into your content are as follows:
- How-to videos
- Blog posts
- Tip of the week social media post
- A live Q&A
Not only does this position yourself as an expert in your field, but it helps build likability and trust with your fans –which, in turn, will keep them around longer!
3) Entertain Your Audience
Another way to create content your audience will love, is to entertain them! This form of content can help you reach a larger audience and attract new leads because it can potentially go viral (if aligned correctly!). Perhaps it’s a relatable GIF or IG Reel –or maybe you want to tell a funny story on your stories to grab your followers’ attention.
Whatever it be, great content should infuse a good mix of entertainment and value that will have your audience coming back for more. Time to get creative, now!
4) Inspire Your Audience
This content usually performs well because it tugs on the heartstrings of your target audience. Here’s your opportunity to tap into those struggles your fans might be facing and empowering them to push through. Some great examples of this include:
- Quotes
- Success stories
- Instagram vs. reality
- Being vulnerable and sharing your own challenges and how you’ve grown from them

5) Relate to Your Audience
You want your audience to love your content? Then, be the person your fans can’t help but turn to when they’re feeling down, unmotivated, or just need some honest and candid advice. Not only should your content showcase your expertise – but you want to make sure you’re creating content that says “I get you, and I know what you’re going through.”
Simply put: be a real human. This could mean anything from saying hello your followers on IG stories every morning, sharing a vulnerable story on Tiktok, posting little snippets of a day-in-the-life, and more.
Remember: there’s SO much competition out there. What makes your brand any different from the rest? I mean, wouldn’t you be more likely to buy from a brand if you actually liked them and felt a personal connection with the people on the other side of the screen versus a company that posts so-so content with no personality? Just something to think about!

In the end, your audience is going to love your content if you educate, inspire, entertain, and showcase that fabulous personality of yours! Once you’ve got that down, you’ve build that likability and you’ll be front of mind when they need you (aka, to buy your offers!). So, go on and give your content a little TLC and you’ll be on your way in no time!
